About Me

Hey, my name is Alan Barr and welcome to my travel blog. Ever since my first flight landed into Los Angeles at age 12, and I saw the palm trees growing larger from the window as we descended into LAX I was hooked on the novelty and intrigue of travel.

Growing up in Bergen County, New Jersey I didn’t see a whole lot more than the Jersey Shore until graduating from College. With the exception of a quick jaunt to Tijauna, Mexico and visiting family in Hungary & Ukraine I was stateside for most of my first twenty years.

That all changed in 2010 after I finished working for the  U.S. Census Bureau. On a whim and thanks to a $490 dollar travel deal, I booked a flight into Berlin, Germany and spent eight weeks hopping around Europe..

Since then, I have been to over 40 countries and counting staying in everything from eight-bed hostel rooms to luxury hotels. I still think the best feeling in the world is waking up in a new city or country and hitting the ground running to soak up as much new experiences as I can.

My hope is that this site can be somewhere you not only keep up with my journeys and adventures, but a place to gain motivation to hit the road yourself. I would like to not only highlight the best part of places I see, but also ways to maximize travel deals and rewards to make some of these pricier destination trips a reality.
